Solano County Parks proposes to remove large exotic/invasive weeds and replace it with native vegetation conducive to enhancing the Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle (VELB) habitat within Lake Solano Park. The first phase of the necessary hands-on work which will lead to long-term integration of VELB Project awareness and protection in public education programs and protection of habitat.

The project will create a low public impact conservation area to provide habitat for VELB in perpetuity. This will involve the removal of invasive exotic species and planting of mixed native species including elderberry shrubs. Elderberry shrubs are the specific host plant for VELB.
