Regional Vernal Pool Species Status Surveys-Vollmar Consulting
Vollmar Consulting was awarded a grant from the Solano County Water Agency (SCW A) to conduct surveys for vernal pool associated special-status species on previously unsurveyed lands within SCW A’s proposed Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) area. The purpose of the surveys, conducted in 2005, was to provide additional information on the regional occurrence and distribution of targeted species. This information is being used by SCW A for long-term regional conservation and development planning through the HCP. Project work involved identifying lands to be surveyed, contacting landowners to obtain survey access, and conducting surveys where access was obtained.
SCWA identified the following six special-status species to be the focus of the surveys.
- Ferris’ milk-vetch ( Astragalus tener var. ferrisiae) - [Federal Species of Concern]
- Alkali milk-vetch ( Astragalus tener var. tener) - [Federal Species of Concern]
- Contra Costa goldfields (Lasthenia conjugens) [Federal Endangered]
- Colusa grass (Neostapfia colusana) [Federal Threatened/State Endangered]
- Saline clover (Trifolium depauperatum var. hydrophilum) [Federal Species of Concern]
- Crampton’s Tuctoria (Tuctoria mucronata) [Federal Endangered/State Endangered]
- California tiger salamander ( Ambystoma californiense) [Federal Endangered]
