Agriculture Water Conservation Committee

The Agriculture Water Conservation Committee of the Solano Water Advisory Commission has been in existence since 1992 and assists growers in Solano County with water use and efficiency. The Committee is comprised of representatives from Solano County Water Agency, Solano Irrigation District, U.C. Cooperative Extension, Reclamation District 2068, Maine Prairie Water District, Ulatis Resource Conservation District, Dixon Resource Conservation District, and Natural Resources Conservation District, Dixon Office.

Activities of the Committee include:

  • Purchase, installation and operation of three automated weather stations located throughout Solano County for use by irrigators in irrigation scheduling.
  • Development of the Irrigation Hotline, a 24-hour a day free telephone service, providing user-friendly data from 4 local CIMIS weather stations. The telephone number is (707) 421-3019.
  • Development of the Weathernews Website for Solano County Growers. This website can be accessed at <broken link> www.wxnet.com/sid/main/sidmenu.htm. Information such as reference evapotranspiration, phenology models, degree days, temperatures, and precipitation are available at no cost. To get the weather forecast delivered daily, a subscription is required.
  • Sponsoring workshops for growers on irrigation scheduling and management.
  • Performing Irrigation System Evaluations as requested by growers.
  • Creation and distribution of The Irrigator, a newsletter published 4 times a year, to irrigators of urban turf and irrigated crops.
  • Conducting grower surveys regarding their interests and needs for water-use efficiency assistance.
  • Applying for any state and federal grant programs related to agricultural water conservation.
