2024 Water Awareness Contest Timeline

Timeline:
January 1, 2024 through April 11, 2024 at 5 pm
Students may submit videos (remember to include a completed Entry Form for each participant and a Release Form for every person who appears in the video).
The deadline to receive video entries is 5 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
April 11-30, 2024
Videos will first be examined by contest coordinators to verify eligibility and then go through three rounds of judging and scoring by water efficiency experts and community leaders to determine winners.
May 1, 2024
Contest winners will be announced on www.scwa2.com.
May 2024 (Water Awareness Month)
Winners will be presented with cash and certificates and may have the opportunity to present their entries at community events such as city council meetings.
2023 Water Awareness Video Contest Winners Announced!!
The Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Water Awareness Video Contest:
- FIRST PLACE: “The Water Detective” by Sachi Bansal(Lynn Larsen, teacher) of Rodriguez High School in Fairfield will receive $1,500 split 50/50 between student and sponsoring teacher.
- SECOND PLACE:“Saving the Future One Drop at a Time” by Regina Perez and Sophia Villaruel (Anthony Mueller, teacher) of Vanden High School in Fairfield will receive $1,000 split 50/50 between students and sponsoring teacher.
- THIRD PLACE: “The Dos and Don’ts of Saving Water” by Sofia Velasco(Darcy Pritchard, teacher) of Vanden High School in Fairfield will receive $500 split 50/50 between student and sponsoring teacher.
Top scoring video from each school: Makers of the top scoring video from each high-participation school earn a $100 Target gift card (minimum was ten eligible videos per school with overall prizewinners not eligible).
- “Juanita and Bartholomew Learn a Lesson on Saving Water” by Scarlett Becerra Gutierrez and Isabella Castro(Debra Striek, teacher) of Public Safety Academy in Fairfield
- “Save Water and Save Our Earth” by Victoria Lopez (Bridgette Eldridge, teacher) of Rodriguez High School in Fairfield
- “A Bear’s Way with Water” by Sarina Patel(Darcy Pritchard, teacher) of Vanden High School in Fairfield
Teacher participation prizes: The three teachers with the highest participation each receive a $200 Target gift card (minimum to be considered was ten or more eligible videos sponsored). These awards go to Bridgette Eldridge of Rodriguez High School, Darcy Pritchard of Vanden High School, and Debbie Striek of Public Safety Academy.
SCWA received 109 videos representing thirteen schools from throughout Solano County in this year’s contest, which challenged middle school and high school students to create compelling and original 60-second Public Service Announcement videos on the 2023 theme Saving Water is Saving Our Future.
A team of water efficiency experts narrowed videos down to the top finalists, and then a panel of community leaders selected the winners. A HUGE THANK YOU to our judging panel of community leaders, and experts, which included Ron Tuner for state Senator Bill Dodd, John Young with 93.5 KUIC and Jim Reikowsky, longtime Film Office Liaison (now retired) with the Solano County Film Commission.
Selections were based on entertainment value and originality, videography, style and organization, audio/sound, and movie content and accuracy.
